How to Apply for DigiLocker

  1. 1Open digilocker.gov.in or install the official DigiLocker app.
  2. 2Tap Sign Up and enter your details and mobile number.
  3. 3Verify with the OTP sent to your mobile and set your security PIN.
  4. 4Link your Aadhaar to verify the account.
  5. 5Use 'Search Documents' to fetch issued documents such as your driving licence, marksheets or PAN record.
  6. 6Use the 1 GB DigiLocker Drive only for your own scans; these are not treated as verified documents.

No official minimum or maximum age is set. Users under 18 need verifiable parent or guardian consent under DigiLocker's terms of use.

Are DigiLocker documents valid as originals?+

Documents in the 'Issued Documents' section are deemed at par with originals under Rule 9A of the IT (Digital Locker) Rules, 2016. Self-uploaded files are not treated as valid documents.

Is a driving licence in DigiLocker valid for traffic police?+

Yes, if it is fetched as an issued document. The Ministry of Road Transport advised states in 2018 to accept DL and RC shown through DigiLocker or mParivahan.

What do I need to sign up for DigiLocker?+

A mobile number for OTP, and your Aadhaar number to verify the account and fetch issued documents.

Can one family share a DigiLocker account?+

No. Each person must create their own account and can fetch only documents issued in their own name.
